Barren Landscape

Winter winds settle in with winds that chill to the bone,
Strong gusts that purge heat away from those it sees.
Pulsing through the cores of all the people it meets,
Before barreling forward into another.

The frozen ground compacted together by the cold season
Compounded by the disappearing snow that is all around.
Like a deadly plague seeping through the different layers,
growing day after day, constant movement.

Here I stand, frozen in place, and in emotion.
My thoughts are left behind, in an icy chamber
Waiting for a burning heat to let them free
Still stuck firmly onto that heart, the one that has left me.

Even though these emotions will not change
And they will not be free to be shown
Exist in this hidden location will they be
Waiting for that perfect release.
