Broken Headlight and Screeching Tires

“Why..? Don’t you see me down on my knees?” Screams a voice into the dark, eerie silence that blankets the darkened road at 10:30pm. The voice is harsh, painful to hear, with teardrops falling from the different syllables.

“I did all that I could! …and this is where you’re leaving me? An empty street in this bleakness? Have you no shame? No regret? What am I, your pawn to leave like this? I thought I meant something.” The streetlight above him begins to flicker. He kneels with tears streaming down his face, shivering from the sheer magnitude of his emotion .

The light goes out with a flash, illuminating the boy’s face for one last moment before the life of its filament disappears for good. The boy whimpers, head touching the ground, shaking from cold, and despair. His world was silent, muting everything, even the vibrations of tires on pavement.

His final words ring out, “I… don’t want to live anymore…”

Headlights illuminate his body as a car slams into him, snuffing out the life from inside him; sending it far into the world beyond.
